LATEST ADDICTION: Not Your Average Girls (From Your ‘Telephone’ Video)

‘Telephone’, the Jonas Akerlund directed 11-minute music video/mini-movie for Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s second collaboration, both captivated and enraged audiences around the globe with its violent and sexually explicit content, product placements and nonsense.

“Not Your Average Girl (From Your Video)” singer India.Arie counts herself in the latter camp. She recently asked her Twitter followers, “Am I the only one who thinks the telephone video is going a bit too far?”

She clarified: “I respect the creative mind but disagree with the ‘choices’ as a dish meant to be served for mass consumption . . . Crazy to me that the Dark, underbelly, shock at all cost thing is a TREND like asymmetrical hair and big shoulder jackets. Slippery slope!”

In response to her critics, Gaga points out that the “video is groundbreaking because it has one foot in the art community and one foot in the commercial world.”
