Juanita Goggins made history in 1974 when she became the State Legislature’s first black woman ever to be elected in South Carolina.

Juanita Goggins once again made news when her body was found a week after death, alone and unattended.

The circumstances of her increasing reclusiveness, as well as her inexplicable death, remain a puzzle for the moment.

Perhaps some good will come of her passing, and increased awareness of the issues she was involved with both professionally and personally, will come to pass.
