Fast Food Inc Devours Healthy Historic Mediterranean Diet

Regionalism is in a death battle royal against globalization.

In a bold move to save not only their culture, but their lives, four Southern European countries have asked UNESCO to designate their world famous diet as an endearing yet endangered part of their heritage, worthy of protection.

The medical world has long promoted the diet rich in fish, vegetables, legumes and elixer like olive oils as the most healthy of all.

Likewise, cultural protection advocates have long targeted the mediterranean areas as rich in a distinct heritage.

With development came the donut, and the two fights have merged in an epic battle against the bulge. Junk food has hit the costal towns like a heart attack, and the locals aren’t going to take it lying down.

But will the health angle pave the way for precedence? How long before Northern Europe approaches UNESCO with it’s own cultural defense of heavy cream sauces and deep fried starches? And what’s more central to American culture than the hamburger?

Hmm… food for thought.
