How Do You Solve a Problem Like Teacher?

The idea that US schools are in the crapper seems to be universally accepted these days, but are there other answers to the problem other than “Fire them all!”?

Apparently “Some things cannot be summed up in a two paragraph blog post.”, so here’s a comprehensive insider’s take on the situation.

I’m not going to be all sides of the debate, point and counterpoint both (“Error 404, you ignorant slut!”) while you read passively. This required audience participation folks, you know, that thing we used to call thinking.

Besides, who wants my twisted view of the world?

A middle-aged, Ivy League Masters degree toting, hard working, self-motivated, A student, licensed professional, sitting around blogging in his pajamas because “it’s the economy stupid” and there ain’t no jobs, just growing homelessness and the healthcare crisis as rewards.

I look at the problem of how to motivate kids so disinterested in their own future that they can’t even bother to pay attention in school, giving up in round one of the fight, and I can’t help but think “what’s the point?”.
