Education: Battle Won in War Against Stupidity
But will we win the battle and lose the war?
But I think what is missing here is the bigger picture. If everyone now basically has to go to college just to get a low paying dead-end job, then how could standards not have to slip? Are we all meant to be geniuses? How can it be elite, and yet everyone is expected to join? Are today’s youth now faced with two choices: become a scholar, or go on the dole?
I myself failed one class in college. (don’t tell anybody!) Looking back, I really wonder what the big deal was, and why my F couldn’t have been bumped up to a D.
I guess they got more money from me when I repeated the class, so bully on them, but I can tell you right now, after 25 years in the profession, I didn’t need to know any of that crap in order to do my job.
Which sheds light on all of the grey areas between the black (stupid people deserve to fail) and white (students should be churned out of schools on an assembly line like cars from a factory) of the issue.
Maybe some Professors are just too darn picky.
