“You’re So Gay”: Carly Simon Sings to David Geffen

After 40 years of misleading the general public to believe her iconic “You’re So Vain” song was written about Warren Beatty or Mick Jagger, Carly Simon “whispered” the name of the Vain person in the title song in the new acoustic version of the song off her upcoming album NEVER BEEN GONE.

Like a true spawn of Satan like Barry Manilow, Carly cleverly whispers David’s name backwards on the track, which can no longer be construed as a “call-out” to international playboys like Warren or Mick.

In reality, the song is probably about Carly’s resentment towards David when he allegedly put more effort into promoting Joni Mitchell, who was at the time Carly’s main rival.

Too bad I won’t be thinking about Warren Beatty walking into a yacht in Nova Scotia any longer.

Instead, it’ll be David Geffen…with maybe Keanu Reeves by his side!
