12 Dresses for Istanbul

pop!talk correspondent Ebonia was invited to the opening of the “12 Dresses for Istanbul: Fashion’s Comment on Literature by Spanish Designers” exhibit at the Istanbul Fashion Academy.

The exhibition, first organized in Tokyo and Beijing, has now moved to Istanbul with some alterations, and will run from 20 September – 20 November 2008.

The exhibit includes specially designed dresses by Spanish designers such as Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Devota & Lomba, Francis Montesinos, Victorio & Lucchino, Amaya Arzuaga, Alma Aguilar, Ailanto, Spastor, Juan Duyos, Miriam Ocariz, Davidelfin and Lydia Delgado.

The outfits are inspired by the works of world-renowned Spanish writers, including Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Alvaro Mutis, Juan Gelman, Carlos Fuentes, Miguel Delibes, Jose Angel Valente and Carmen Martin Gaite. The aim of the exhibition is to introduce Spanish language and culture to Turkey.

What a night it was, rubbing shoulders with the Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay, Spanish Culture Ministry Undersecretary Dolores Carrion and Spanish Fashion Designers Association President Modesto Lomba. Not to mention a “pop!talk exclusive” interview with the hottest fashion designer of Spain, Davidelfin.

…it’s who you know.
