Usonia Lost

The Mid-century Modern blogosphere was all a twitter last month when one of the Frank Lloyd Wrightinan homes in Usonia, NY burned to the ground.

Located nearby, I’d visited the neighborhood many times.

Designed by former Wright apprentice David Henken, the house fell victim to a silly accident.

There but for the grace of God go I.

Built in 1959, the home was part of a utopian development based on liberal values.

Usonia really went beyond just architecture, distinguishing itself from contemporary developments like Hollin Hills.

One of the original residents was kind enough to share photos.

It’s a testament to the community that such feeling are felt beyond mere nostalgia.
