Celebrity Death Match: McMansion vs. Mid-Century Modern

It’s a real estate clash of the titans!

In the one corner we have the boom-years’ poster child, the house with 3 SUVs in every garage: the McMansion.

AKA: “garage mahals,” “Hummer houses” or “starter castles.”

Hopeful that these behemoths are heading the way of the dinosaurs they resemble, so I’ve started a I Hate McMansions fan page on Facebook.

If these single family homes the size of small New England states are the thing you love to hate, please join.

In the other corner we have the house flipper’s wet dream, the so-hip-it-hurts overpriced homes popular with married gays and the tragically trendy straights who emulate them, the Mid-Century Modern.

It’s the must-have house for homie bloggers like Modern Capital, Live Modern or Mid-Century Modernist.

Many a Mid-Century Mod was demolished to make way for a McMansion 4 times its size, but the tide seems to be turning as the once grassroots efforts are snowballing into full on backlash.

So, who are you betting on for the TKO in the final round?
